Even though Jesus made it very clear throughout His earthly ministry that external purity and moral excellence are required, His core message was centered on the concept of inward purity. True moral excellence, in other words, begins not by grudgingly submitting to some kind of 'morality checklist,' but rather with a transformed heart.
